Solar Power

FGC’s work with solar-powered lighting allows households the freedom to work and study beyond the limits of daylight. A dark home means children (and adults) cannot study or work in the evenings – frequently forcing them to choose between education and feeding their families.

Solar-powered lighting allows villagers to work during the day and study at night – a simple solution that has transformed the lives of more than 400 families.

FGC does not simply provide and install solar-powered lighting; the infrastructure to support the lighting systems comes from the community itself. FGC assists in training villagers to install and maintain the lighting system. Villagers collaboratively install and raise the funds for maintenance of the system resulting in competence, empowerment and employment.

The Need
FGC’s goal is to provide solar lighting to 100 more families this year. Village people will be trained to install, repair and maintain the panels, thus providing employment opportunities.
