Governance

In many ways, FGC’s work on local governance is our most important undertaking. FGC uses a decentralization approach – empowering rural communities and mobilizing Afghans to take responsibility for their futures.

Assisting the people of Bamyan province in creating and participating in their local shuras or councils is critical for effecting lasting change in other areas of development and for lobbying the central government. All development decisions come from the community and are organized and executed by the villagers – establishing community leadership is an essential first step.

The Need
FGC’s goal is to continue to foster self-respect for and participation in rural communities, as well as in developing strong three-way partnerships among communities, NGOs and government.
